Exploiting the Untapped Potentials of Nigeria Education System

The significance of education in human development cannot be overemphasized. Education has been outlined as an important tool in any human society and it is the sole reason why man develops faster than any other creature. It is the foundation of all human sectors; political, security, medical, agriculture etc. This can be justified by the saying “no nation can rise above the quality of education its citizens receive”. Nigeria with over 180 million populations has over half of her population as youths under the age of thirty. This implies that about 60% of these youth is either studying at undergraduate or postgraduate level.
According to the Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB), more than 1.8 million candidates registered for the 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, which denotes that Nigeria is one of the top countries in Africa with the highest number of students.

The Nigerian government through the Ministry of Education is carrying out everything in her capacity to improve the standard of education in Nigeria coupled with the establishment of notable privates Universities such as, Covenant, Babcock, Afe Babalola, Madonna, America University of Nigeria to mention but a few in recent years has drastically improved the capacity and quality of Nigeria educational system.

Despite the government’s effort in increasing the admission capacity of students nationwide, it is rather unfortunate that the jostling for the few available spaces continues to intensify every year.
A report published by the popular Nigeria Newspaper, the Vanguard reported that out of the 1.8 million candidates that sat for UTME in 2017, only 850,000 were considered for admission while the others were totally left out.
UNESCO Institute of Statistics (UIS), the number of Nigerian students abroad increased by 164 percent in the decade between 2005 and 2015 alone– from 26,997 to 71,351. About 80% of these scholars rely on scholarship which is a very highly competitive process.
The tuition fees for many foreign higher institutions of learning across the world is highly unaffordable to most Nigerians, and as such, there are many online degrees which can be easily accessed in the comforts of students’ homes.
The reason why many students failed to secure admission stem from pure ignorance to wrong choices of course selection to incomplete application.
In order to increase students chances of being considered for an admission, eliminate the financial stress and risks associated with traveling abroad for study; a team of intellectual Nigerians has set up an organization which focuses on helping Nigeria students, both at undergraduate and at postgraduate level to be a step ahead of their peers in securing admission to their dreams schools, guide them in choosing the right courses, and make admission processes seamless.
